How Adjectives are used as Nouns in English Language
Adjectives can be used as nouns to refer to a person or thing having a particular quality. This is known as a "noun use of an adjective." Here are a few examples:
- The rich: refers to people who are wealthy
- The brave: refers to people who are courageous
- The poor: refers to people who are in need or lacking resources
- The homeless: refers to people who lack a permanent place of residence
Note that when an adjective is used as a noun, it is often preceded by the definite article "the." The noun use of an adjective can also function as a collective noun, referring to a group of individuals sharing a certain quality.
